Reverse Vending Machines
We typically go to vending machines for all kinds of things, coffee, mid-day snacks, gum, french fries (yes, I've seen this), soda pop, water, juice....you get the idea. Now the clever folks over in Europe have created a Reverse Vending machine. What it does is allow you to recycle your cans, paper cups, and bottles!
Many people have a hard enough time just trying to find a garbage can not to mention a recycling bin. This wonderful idea takes the guess work out of that. No more feeling guilty for depositing that used water bottle in the trash - take it back to the vending machine, where it's crushed and later recycled. Every business, school, church, hospital, office, retail store, sports arena, etc....that uses vending machines NEEDS to have one of these near by!!!
As of this posting this idea has not made it over here yet (USA!), I couldn't find a distributor for here; so for you eco-preneurers and eco-investors, I'd check out the website and get moving. They come in different sizes and styles with different actions. I can't believe someone hadn't thought of this until now!
Ahhh..The Goode Life just keeps getting better.

Hi, I just came across the posting in Goode Stuff about reverse vending machines and thought I should provide some feedback. There are in fact thousands of reverse vending machines being used in the US today, including those provided by the company I work for, TOMRA. TOMRA, which created the world's first reverse vending machine back in 1972, has been active in the US since the early 70's. Extensive information about these activities can be found at www.tomra.com.

We supply reverse vending machines in Ireland for Envipco - as stated they are usually in use in countries where there is a deposit refund on beverage containers . We are the 1st company to succesfully introduce a recycle and reward programme having units now placed in over 40 schools and activly working on a new concept of earning for charities in Ireland through recycling . we reward in many ways - points per bottle or can - points based on units not sold in schools recovered so on so on - see www.recycleandreward.ie for more info . these units are the best option going forward to increase recovery rates - encourage litter picks and reduce transport related Co2 in the collection industry through compaction and shredding of the containers on site .
