After what I don't know took me so long, I finally submitted my subscription to Ready Made magazine. Being a general contractor as an occupation, I'm a notorious do-it-your-selfer.; so suffice it to say this mag has become one of my many bibles.
Because of my occupation I order LOTS of materials from hardware stores and lumber yards, that arrive to my job-sites on huge pallets. I oftentimes will just break up the pallet and throw it in the lumber bin, or give it away as scrap wood to anyone who wants it. That was until now, the latest issue of ReadyMade shows Michael Janzen and his pallet house. This is genius!

Inhabitat is featuring this recycled bowling lanes table, it makes me yearn for the years when I used to bowl in my Pee Wee league at Castle Lanes waaay back in the day! Nonetheless I love this table, finding new and usual tables is my new addiction (it used to be chairs, but when I moved I had to give away a lot of my chair collection).
This idea isn't really that new, lots of people have made tables from this type of salvaged wood, this is just the first time I've seen it done really well, to the point it would fit with almost any decor. I love that the table itself is the main focal point without the distraction of legs.
The United States Green Building Council (USGBC) held it's annual conference last month in Chicago and if for some reason you were unable to attend then check out the Healthy Building Network's article on the event. It's a summary of everything that took place from A to Z. After reading it myself I felt like I was there!
