Afrigadget

At first I wanted to post one or two things I had discovered on this site, but it was too hard to narrow it down.  So I'm going to suggest you visit the site and peruse it yourself.

Afrigadget is a website that focuses on ways people in Africa have used ingenuity to solve everyday problems.  It's both innovative and inspiring at the same time!

The Hydros Bottle

This idea is beyond innovative, it's downright genius!  As someone who weaned herself off plastic bottled water years ago, I still use a big water filter pitcher to run my tap water through before I carry it in my Kleen Kanteen.  Well the folks at Hydros Bottle have combined the two into one! 

It's made of BPA-free plastic, has an integrated filter mechanism in the lid, the filter cartridges are recyclable, and you can get them customize with your company or team logo.

From their website:
Hydros Bottle began at the Wharton School and the School of Engineering and Applied Science of the University of Pennsylvania to sustainably provide purified water to increasingly mobile, urban people in the developing world. As we began investigating the opportunity, we discovered the issue is not just limited to developing countries. Many areas of the United States are afflicted with poor quality public tap water that is often laced with dangerous levels of heavy metals and toxins (find out what is in your water). As a result, we decided first to focus on releasing Hydros Bottle right here at home. While our plans to develop customizable filters for distribution worldwide are temporarily on hold, we are still actively engaged in promoting access to potable water to the 1.1 billion residents of our global community who still live without clean water. 

The cost is $25 for the bottle and $6 for the filters, a bargain for clean, purified water!  It is sad they've put on hold their efforts to bring clean water to underdeveloped communities, perhaps they could adopt the business plan of other eco-manufacturers and socially responsible companies like Toms Shoes

LONNY Magazine

For those of you suffering from withdrawals since Domino Magazine shut down, there is a great substitute.  Lonny Magazine (which is a hybrid for London and New York) is a new online design magazine.  The layout is great, the photography is beautiful, and you can shop right from the site.  The premiere issue is already online, and is chock-full of photos and editorials, and not crowded with lots of irrelevant ads!  I'm so happy :)!!!!!
